Plastech Elwood - Fire
I have been to this plant many times when they were going through QS900. I am glad that everyone got out alright.
ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH/AP) - Fire departments from three counties helped extinguish a massive industrial plant fire in Elwood Monday. The fire started around 7 a.m. at Plastech Engineered Products along State Road 37.
Smoke from the fire and the large amount of fire equipment at the scene caused authorities to close Indiana 37 in Elwood, about 35 miles north of Indianapolis. The road was reopened later in the afternoon.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause. They say at least a third of the facility was damaged.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management also performed tests to check the quality of the drinking water. They determined the water is safe to drink.
INside Indiana Business is reporting that the Michigan-based plastics company was getting out of the exteriors business and planned on closing this plant as soon as Sunday, putting some 290 people out of work.
