This the first time in the 47 year history that someone has been killed on this ride. I have done this in the past. It is a round trip from Columbus to Portsmouth in two days for a total of 210 miles.  How can a person hit something/someone and say they thought they might have hit something.

A bicyclist in the annual Tour of the Scioto River Valley was killed yesterday along Rt. 23 when he was struck from behind by a sport-utility vehicle, the State Highway Patrol said.

William Crowley, 57, of Northville, Mich., was riding alone north near Piketon. He was thrown from the bicycle and died at the scene about 7:50 a.m., the patrol said.

The driver of the SUV, Sara Bender, 35, was not injured, the patrol said.

After hitting Crowley, she drove to her home in Lucasville in Scioto County and returned to the scene about a half hour later, said Sgt. Brandon Cruz, the Highway Patrol officer overseeing the patrol’s coordination of the tour.
